Biography
My name is Valerie Johnson Brown, but most folks call me Val. If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be compassionate. One of the best parts of my job is listening to clients without judgment and extending what most people need when sitting in a lawyer's office: compassion. Now, compassion doesn't always get the job done; it takes knowledge, skill, and experience, but at #VBLaw, we always start with compassion. ⠀

I graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in African American studies. As a student, I participated in several activities including serving as a College of Arts and Sciences Ambassador, Young Women's Leader Mentor, and a member of the Afro-American Gospel Choir. I took a brief break from school after graduating and worked as an ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) assistant at a high school in Texas. Even though this was an exciting adventure, I eventually matriculated to law school at Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia. While in law school, I was the Mid-Atlantic Moot Court Competition Director and Specialist for the National Black Law Students Association as well as the Virginia Bar Association Law School Council Regent Chapter President. I also served as a member on the Dean's Advisory Board. I received the inaugural Community Changer Award for my dedication and commitment to community service upon graduating.

Currently, you can find me volunteering with the Junior of League of Huntsville, Christmas Charities Year Round and the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program. I am a member of several bar associations and certified guardian ad litem. In 2022, I was selected as a Mid-South Rising Star for Super Lawyers.
